Enlisted as a Private on July 20, 1862 at the age of 18. Joined Co. E, 18th Iowa Infantry Regiment on August 7, 1862.
Promoted to 8th Corporal on December 18, 1864.
Received a disability discharge on October 1, 1865 at Davenport, IA.
