Bertha B. (Maxwell) Coon, 91, of 6168 Middle Rd., Hope, died Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Midland Hospital Center after a short illness.

Born in Pioneer, Ohio, April 26, 1895, she moved to Buckeye Township in 1907 and to Hope in 1912. Mrs. Coon was a member of the North Hope Church of God, Women's Missionary Circle and North Hope Church of God, Women's Missionary Circle and North Hope Mystery Sisters. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years.

The former Bertha Havens, she was married to John Maxwell in 1912 and he died March 23, 1948. She then married Roy Coon Nov. 24, 1951 and he preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1975.

Surviving are 5 sons, Robert, John, Donald and Jim Maxwell of Beaverton and William Maxwell of Hope; 4 daughters, Martha Maier and Julia Davidson of Beaverton, Alice Thompson of Hope and Laura Haskell of Sanford; 3 step-children, Robert Coon of Montpellier, Ohio, LaVerne Coon of Wheaton, Mo. and Mary Cogswell of Pioneer, Ohio; 4 brothers, Marion of Beaverton, Byrl of Hillsdale, Clare of Ogden, Utah and Truman of Tustin; one sister, Ruth Evans of Eldorado Springs, Mo.; 38 grandchildren; 90 great grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at 1 p.m. from the North Hope Church of God. The Rev. Robert Ruyts officiated and burial was in the New Hope Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Hall Funeral Home. Gladwin County Record dated 10-15/1986.
