Mrs. Grace E. Briggs, 81, of 2139 Cemetery Rd., Butman Township, died Wednesday, October 8, at Gladwin Area Hospital. Born May 17, 1894, in Pittsford, Mich., she came to Gladwin County in 1908.
The former Grace Monroe was married to Arthur Sprague in 1912 in Harrison and he died February 20, 1966. She and Percy Briggs were married September 27, 1967. Mrs. Briggs was a correspondent for The Record for the past 8 years and for the Clare County Cleaver for 20
years.
Surviving are her husband, Percy; 5 sons, Leroy and Russell Sprague of Harrison, Kenneth of Fenton, Wayne of Midland, and Linus of Mt. Pleasant; 4 daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Grace) Blackledge of Clare, Mrs. Kenneth (Birdie) Kelley of Harrison, Mrs. Arnold (Louise) Crook of
Waldron, and Mrs. Junior (Lola) Ellis of Midland; 1 stepson, Chester A. Briggs of Atlanta, Mich.; 1 brother and 2 sisters; 44 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday at Mathews Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Carl Briggs officiating, and burial was in Butman Cemetery.

Grace's father is Edwin Linus Monroe (1870-1945) and her mother is Eva Isora Huntington (1872-1949). Edwin and Eva Monroe were married on 3/9/1890 in Pittsford, Michigan. They both died in Jefferson Township, Michigan. There are no Find A Grave memorials for either of them.
