A very fine doctor who broke local records by delivering 7,000 babies in Bristol, England.
Dr Alan Benjamin Otlet, who resided at Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, England worked at Southmead Health Centre for 40 years. During his career he was awarded several medals for his services to medicine, including the Jubilee medal in 1977 and an MBE in 1991.
Dr Otlet was much involved in a number of medical committees, especially at Southmead Hospital, even after his retirement, and was president of the Bristol branch of the British Medical Association between 1990 and 1991. He was awarded a fellowship by the BMA in 1993.
Outside of his work the doctor was a committed Christian and was warden of Westbury Parish. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge from 1975 until his death and was a keen gardener and fisherman.
Dr Otlet was married and he and his wife, Ann, had five children. His son David in tribute to his father said: "He was a kind, thoughtful and modest man, a doctor who always considered his patients. "He dedicated his life to serving the community and will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues."
