Nancy Easton Blume, died on Jan. 26, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in St. Petersburg. She had recently been diagnosed with colon cancer and undergone major surgery.
She was born on Feb. 8, 1945, to Robert and Ruth Easton.
She spent her childhood in Peoria, IL, and graduated from Richwoods Community High School in 1963. She graduated from Newcomb College (part of Tulane University) in New Orleans in 1967. She married Robert Logan James in 1967 (later divorced) and together they served in the Peace Corps. They spent two years in Ghana. Those were the happiest days of Nancy's life. In the mid-1970s, she moved to St. Petersburg and made it her permanent home. She fell in love with the beautiful beaches of St. Petersburg and became an avid shell collector and fisherwoman. She was married to and divorced from Norman Kress and later Peter Blume. She acted as a mother to Deborah and Peter Blume Jr., who both survive her in St. Petersburg. She was an active member of St. Jude's Cathedral Parish, other Catholic prayer groups and several volunteer organizations. She suffered the loss of her mother in January 2005, and the loss of her father in January 2010.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Easton Jr.; her daughter, Pearl James; her son-in-law, Leon Sachs; her granddaughter, Chloe James Sachs; several nieces and nephews and a circle of devoted friends.
Cremation has been accorded. She will be buried privately by the family in Spring-dale Cemetery in Peoria, IL later this spring. A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Jude's Cathedral in St. Petersburg on her birthday, Feb. 8, 2010 at 9:30 am. Mass will also be offered in her name on Feb. 8, 2010 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, IL.
