Evelyn Bacon Ashmore died after the Hurricane Floyd evacuation from Savannah. She was a longtime resident of Savannah Square Retirement Community. A native of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., she spent most of her life in Walthourville. She attended Georgia State College for Women (now Valdosta State University) and taught for several years at the former Walthourville Village School. She was a member of Walthourville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a sister,two nieces, and two nephews.
