Charles G. Fernández, age 55, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away from a battle with cancer on January 12, 2010.
Charles is survived by his wife of 33 years, Yolanda Fernández, his daughter, Nicole Davila, his son, Charles M. Fernández and his wife, Carolina, his sister, Sandy Vargas and her husband, Robert, two brothers, Tony Fernández and his girlfriend, Kathy and David Fernández, grandsons, Estevan Fernández and Mateo Fernández, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Maurice and Betty Cordóva, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many other extended family members.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo and Anna Fernández.
Charles was a member of the Catholic Church, a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam Era and a motor coach operator for the City of Albuquerque for 22 years.
Charles was known for his big smile, the love for his family and he enjoyed working in his yard and garden.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final visitation will be on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. also at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Father Gerry Steinmetz, presider. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie Soto, Michael Luján, Michael Sánchez, Matty Romero III, Charlie Vargas and Donald Márquez. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Vargas and Mike Cordóva.
The family requests that donations/contributions be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
