Mrs. Manley H. Barney passed away at the home of her son John Furtney in this city last Friday afternoon after an illness extending over a period of nearly three years.
A dislocated hip, the result of a fall, had confined her to her bed until last fall when she was taken from her home at Mondac, Mont. to a hospital at Devils Lake for treatment. After several weeks some improvement was noted and she was taken to this city where John Barney and his family did everything that loving hands could do to make her comfortable and to relieve her suffering but her condition grew gradually worse until about ten days ago when pneumonia set in and all hope of her recovery was abandoned.
Her husband and three sons, John of Michigan City, Manley of Jamestown and William of ? are left to mourn her demise.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A.F. ? and internment made in the local cemetery.
Hannah Barney was born on a farm near Port Elgin, Canada October 24, 1851. When a child she moved with her parents to Minnesota and on January 11th 1877, was united in marriage to Manley H. Barney at Austin, Minnesota, With her husband and family she moved to Michigan City, N.D. in 1896 where they made their home until four years ago when they located on a claim near the city of Mondac. During her thirteen years residence in this vicinity Mrs. Barney made many friends and will be remembered by all who knew her as a friend and friendly Christian woman, faithful to the friends she loved and devoted to her family. To the husband who has lost a life companion and to the boys whose best friend has left them, we extend our deepest sympathy, realizing, that while death to the poor sufferer was a blessed relief, to those who, from earliest childhood, have known the tenderness of a good mother's love, no words of kindly sympathy can ease the anguish and pain their great loss has caused. May the knowledge that they did all that could be done to comfort her and ease her suffering in those last sad days console the bereaved ones and aid them in bearing their sorrow.
