Gainesville resident Bertha Mae Edwards, passed away Monday, October 31, 2016 at Pecan Tree Health and Rehab Center at the age of ninety-two. She was born on January 26, 1924 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to George and Armedia (Canthan) Reed. Bertha had been in Texas since 1939. She worked as a nurses' aide for Gainesville Memorial Hospital for many years and was a member of Trinity Temple Church in Gainesville.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 4th at Meador Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Lorne officiating. Interment will follow in New Rest Haven Cemetery. Willie Thomas, Travis Calhoun, Leon Calhoun II, Darrell Dennis, Marvin Royal and J. C. Flowers, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Willie Mae Calhoun of Gainesville; grandsons, Travis Calhoun of Gainesville and Leon Calhoun, Jr. of Fort Worth; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex Edwards and three brothers.
