Susannah Brooks, widow of the late A. J. Brooks departed this life Friday morning June 29, 1911 at the home of her daughter Mrs. J. R. Layman, 604 Baker St. She was born Oct. 27, 1830 in Schuylkill Co., PA. At the age of 15 years she removed with her parents to near Floris where she resided until 3 months ago when she removed to the home of her daughter. Shortly after her arrival at Floris she was united in marriage with Anson Jackson Brooks. Her husband preceded her in death about 20 years ago. To this union were born 16 children; Albert T., Alvin, Alfred A., George W., Charles M., Daniel F., John, Mary, Alice, David J., Leona, William R., Frances E., Lovonna, Anna & Frank M. Her remains were laid to rest in the Fiedler Cem. after the funeral services which were held in Miller Chapel south of Ottumwa, conducted by Rev. Isaac Elder, pastor of Davis St. Christian Church.
