Author, Screenwriter. Born Erich Wolf Segal in Brooklyn, the son of a rabbi, he attended Midwood High School and traveled abroad to Switzerland where he took summer courses. He was educated at Harvard, where he studied Poetry and Latin, attaining a Master's degree and Doctorate. He was serving as a classics professor at Yale University when he co-wrote the script for The Beatles' 1968 animated film "Yellow Submarine." The following year he penned his best-selling novel "Love Story," which became a highly successful motion picture adaptation in 1970. Other works include the "Love Story" sequel "Oliver's Story" (1977), "The Class" (1985) and "Doctors" (1988). In addition, he taught Greek and Latin literature at Yale, Harvard and Princeton Universities. Segal was residing in London when he died from a heart attack. He had been suffering from Parkinson's disease.
