The farm was located off present day Hurst-Williams Road, on the south side of the road between Hackberry Creek (unmarked) and the top of the highest hill; approximately 1/2 mile west of the creek. T O Ketchersid and family lived across the dirt road from Mr Mabe and family.
The following is Mr. Mabe's obituary, published by the Chillicothe Valley News (of Chillicothe TX). The newspaper has not been operational for many years.
Death Last Week Claimed W. R. Mabe
W. R. Mabe, who would have been 67 years of age the 4th day of July, died at the family residence at Medicine Mound at 4:45 Monday afternoon, following an operation for appendicitis at Childress the 20th of March. He apparently had been in bad health for the past five or six years.
Mr. Mabe was a pioneer citizen of the Medicine Mound community and was well known in this part of the State. He came to Medicine Mound from Hill County in 1907, and in 1908, he entered the grocery business, running same until 1923 when his health failed and he was forced to retire. He was a member of the Methodist Church for the past thirty years and was ever true to his principles. He was a loving husband and father and was a man who had many friends.
Besides his widow, he is survived by five sons and one daughter. The sons are W. T. Mabe, Hillsboro; J. N. Mabe, Jake Mabe, Louie Mabe and Frank Mabe of Crosbyton and the daughter, Mrs. R. E. Karr, of Crosbyton, all of whom attended the funeral.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist Church by the Rev. Florence who holds the pastorate of the Methodist Church at Odell and Medicine Mound.
