Michael "Mike" James Miller, age 48, of Costa Mesa, CA (formerly Grand Haven, MI) passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006 in Newport Beach, CA. Mike was born April 26, 1957 to James L. and Marcia A. (Blizzard) Miller in Lansing, MI. He was a 1975 graduate of Grand Haven High School and a 1981 graduate of Michigan State University. Hired in 1987 by the University of Southern California at Irvine, Mike worked his way up in the communications department from projectionist to running the video teleconference center. According to D. Gallow, Ph.D., Director-Instructional Resources Center of USC at Irvine, "He single-handedly got it (video teleconference center) up and running and kept it running." Mike's interests included photography, music, car restoration, and gardening. He also enjoyed old black and white movies, baseball, cigars, and he loved Indian food. He was a talented musician, and guitar crafter. Video teleconferencing was his specialty. Survived by his mother Marcia Miller of Grand Haven, MI, his sister Laurie (Robert) Bogner, brothers Duke Miller and Scott (Trudy) Miller; nephews and nieces Duke James Miller, Brian and Jennifer Ferrell, Emily and Hannah Bogner, Amanda, Carly and Dylan Miller, and many very special relatives, friends and co-workers who loved him dearly. Mike was preceded in death by his father James L. Miller (1999) and both his maternal and paternal grandparents. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Friends may meet the family 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorials to the American Heart Association are appreciated.
