Three Children Burned Fatally

Three small children were burned to death yesterday in the frame house in which they were trapped by fire on El Carmel St., in county territory near Montebello, Mrs. Elvita Adam (sic), 23, mother of the victims, and Carmen, 3, a fourth child were taken to Angelus Emergency Hospital, both were severe burns.

Dead are:

Evangelina, 4; Marguerita, 2, and John Charles, 5 months.

The blaze, fed by a strong wind, razed the structure and had made so much headway by the time county fire equipment arrived rescuers could do little except keep flames away from near-by houses.

Responsible for the fire was a wood burning stove on which, Mrs. Adams (sic) was warming water for laundry, according to investigator Frank Baker.

Mrs. Julia Torres, who lives across the street, said she saw flames start at the right-hand side of the Adam (sic) house and spread rapidly. Because the district is some distance from a main thoroughfare there was some delay in calling the County Fire Department.

After treatment at Angelus Hospital Mrs. Adam (sic) and her daughter were transferred to General Hospital.

Louis Adam (sic) the father, was not at home at the time of the tragedy.
