Pigpen "Piggy" , best friend and animal companion to us and his sister Munchkin "Munchie."

Piggy

We were looking for a Siamese kitten or cat. G's father told us about a friend of his friend who fostered animals. We called at 9 pm that late September night in 1998 and found out the lady had just gotten you, a Siamese kitten, found in a basement 4 days after your owner died. We said we'd come first thing in the morning, and she said some other people were coming that evening to look at you. So we said we would get dressed and be right over.

You were such a special 6 month old kitty. you in there with the little kittens including the black ones who couldn't be adopted starting October 1. You, doing your tongue trick, and winning Greg's heart. He's the one, Greg said of you.

On the way to the store to get you a litter box and litter, some food and a toy, you yakked, the first of a trillion times. You were the "Yak Master."  It was your title and you earned it well over the years.

But you climbed up on Gs shoulder there in the purple truck, while i was in at the store, as you continued to do many times through the years, your way of hugging, and he was your best buddy as you were his, for the rest of your life.

We named you Pigpen, after the first Grateful Dead keyboardist. You played with, chased, attacked, and slept with G. You were such a loyal cuddle buddy, doing tongue tricks and nose tricks, finding him under the covers. You shared cream and nog and popcorn with him, you liked nip and sparkle balling and mousing.

You were a good alarm clock at 3 a.m. even learning to let us sleep in on weekends and vacations. Time changes were rough. Sometimes you nipped my hair, sometimes you came over to my pillow and were a noodle warmer, purring away, coming to me because I was the one who fed you except when I broke my arm and had surgery and G did it.

Waiting every day we were at work for us to come home, in the window of our apartment with the view of the sidewalk, then running to the door to greet us. An enthusiastic eater,  you knew when it was time to eat. If we were late coming home to feed you, we worried you would be on the chip, but you always waited and welcomed us home.

A better friend, more faithful companion there never has been. And maybe never will be again. You won our hearts from the start and the hearts of our friends often greeting guests  with enthusiasm. Everyone noticed how special you were, far more than just a cat, a wonderful personality, an affectionate, loving guy, even going up on the shoulders of our friends, hugging them too.

Quick to purr, always following us from room to room, sitting on laps while we were typing on the computer, always wanting to be with your people whether in the bed with us watching TV or sleeping, in the computer room, watching Greg take baths and showers, interested in meats we were cooking.

But bodies have parts and parts wear out and cats get sick. Even though we knew you had health issues for some time, we still had some good years left with you for which we are grateful, until finally the years of disease starting taking its toll, and you started to decline.

We loved you too much to watch you in distress, and we agreed you were not getting any better despite out efforts, but still so hard to make that decision, to make the call to let you go. To let you go so you would be free of weakness and illness. And you must have known the time was near as you put forth the effort to jump on the bed and sleep one last time with your best friend, saying goodbye.

Glad we finally found a vet after so many tries at this time of need who was so responsive and caring. We knew it was the right place and the right time to help us help you cross, dearest friend and companion, Piggy. We will always be glad it was so peaceful when you went wherever it is we go when we drop our bodies when they are tired and worn out. All that morning after the decision was made, we did the best we could do for you, talking to you, loving you, and then holding you and stroking you, sending so much love to you, as you peacefully left that body.

I hope that you are the one that meets us when we drop our bodies and join you in that eternal place of universal love and light. Until then, my friend, we'll still love you and miss you on this plane. Munchie and we are now 3, and we are missing you so much. There's a huge hole here now, with the much loved member of our family gone. We miss you, buddy, Piggy, our best friend, even though we know you are in a better place, even though it is just your body that is gone, and the you that is you lives forever, free now, and you are still loved, and always with us here in our hearts.

We want to thank you for being our best friend, for giving us so much joy and love, so very grateful for all the years, although we wanted more. Thank you for simply being you, one GREAT loving and loved cat, Piggy.
