COLLIER, Vera Louise - 79, Truro, passed away on January 4, 2010, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. Born January 31, 1930, in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Hattie (Embree) Harrison. She left Springhill at a young age to seek her fortune in Truro. Here she met her future husband, Bill Collier and created a wonderful blended family. In her younger years, Vera loved to dance, play bingo and later enjoyed summer excursions with Sylvia and visits from family, especially with great-granddaughter, Alyssa. Vera worked for many years at Colchester Regional Hospital as a nurse's aide, retiring to her little home in Bible Hill. Vera is survived by sons, Bob Harrison (Sylvia), Halifax; George Collier (Jean), Lower Sackville; daughter, Betty Johnston, Onslow; sister, Alta Fear, Dartmouth; brothers, James Harrison (Emily) and Carman Harrison (Freda), both of Ontario; grandchildren, Darren Casey, Andrew Cameron (Carman), Dennis (Crystal), Bill, Allan and Paul Harrison, Mary-Beth (Dean) Fancy, Glenn Collier, Curtis (Lynn) Johnston and granddaughter, Lynn Johnston; seven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Vera was predeceased by husband, Bill Collier; son, Paul Collier; daughter, Pat Casey; brothers, LeRoy and Emmerson Harrison; sisters, Agnes Arseneault and Norma McNutt; grandsons, David Collier, Wayne Johnston and good friend, Shirley Vance. Vera's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Colchester Regional Hospital, the staff of Elk Court in Brookfield and especially Dr. Bruce Phillips for their exceptional care. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service on Saturday, January 9, at 2 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. Brian DeLong officiating. Family flowers only. Spring interment in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. With the same spirit of generosity as Vera, please give to a charity of choice.
