LaVena May (Thorn) Babb, 91 of New Albany, IN passed away on January 1, 2009 at the Norton's Healthcare Pavilion in Louisville, Ky. LaVena was born June 09, 1917 and was the only remaining child of Louis and Elizabeth (Linnert) Thorn. Her siblings included Roy, Charles and Willard Thorn and Pearl (Thorn) Pennell. While attending Indiana Central College, she met Ernest Jackson Babb of Ft. Wayne, IN. They were married on December 25, 1939 and shared 37 years together until his death in 1976. She was the devoted mother of Thomas T. Babb (deceased) and Stephen L. Babb. Her love of children was illustrated by her lifetime career of teaching in the Floyd and Clark County School Systems. She was a life-long member of the First Church of God in New Albany. Survivors include: her son, Stephen L. Babb of Louisville, KY, daughter-in-law, Carol, her grand-daughters, Elizabeth C. Babb, Emily A. Naylor and her husband Timothy, and grandson, Todd A. Wilbert and his wife Tabatha, and great-grandchildren Erika, Tyler, and Conner Wilbert. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 PM Sunday at the Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes (1846 E. Oak Street, New Albany). Her Funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday January 5, 2009 at the First Church of God (2248 Charlestown Road, New Albany) with burial in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
