Marcella Banda was born January 1, 1929 and passed away on December 31, 2009. She was born in Korn City, TX to Alberto and Solada Salazar. Marcella was married to Lorenzo Banda Sr. in 1952. They lived in Sterling, CO and moved to Portales, NM in 1983 where they resided. Marcella was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. Marcella and Lorenzo sold fruits and vegetables on the corner of D and 17th Street.
Marcella is survived by her children, Lorenzo and Aide Banda of Portales, NM, Anna Arballo of Portales, NM, Paula and Harold Stephens of Arch, NM, Enemencio and Lavinna Banda of Portales, NM, Margie and Philip Weden of Borger, TX, Diane and Mario Hernandez of Portales, NM, and Mateo and Rhonda Banda of Portales, NM. Marcella had 31 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her caretakers were granddaughter, Gloria Selgado, great-grandchildren, Blanca Selgado, Mercedes Selgado, Juanita Garcia, and Xuanito Garcia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberto and Solada; her husband, Lorenzo Banda Sr; a brother, Willie Salazar; and a grandson, Enemencio Banda "Little Meno".
Marcella wishes no one to wear black clothes to the funeral.
Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, January 8, 2010 at St. Helens Catholic Church in Portales. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. Helens Catholic Church in Portales with Father McGowan officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery.
