The death of Mrs. Maggie Wicker Pattishall on February 2 marked the passing of one of the oldest residents--perhaps the oldest--of Lee county. If Mrs. Pattishall, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Steve Willett, Route 5 Sanford, had lived until July 12, she would have been 97 years of age.
There was no Sanford--and would not be for about 20 years more--when Mrs. Pattishall was born in what is now known as the Deep River section of Lee county, July 12, 1852. Her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Blake Wicker, were farmers.
Lee county was not created until 45 years after the birth of Mrs. Pattishall. The area now comprising Lee was at that time included in Moore and Chatham counties.
Mrs. Pattishall when a girl attended school at Cedar Grove church near the present Jones Chapel Methodist church where she was buried in the church cemetery.
In 1874--before most persons now alive were born--she was married to Nathan Pattishall, Jr. Mr. Pattishall died in 1888. For the past 30 years Mrs. Pattishall had lived with her two daughters, Mrs. Willett and Mrs. C. W. Berryman of Sanford.
This beloved life-long resident of this area is also survived by two sons, E. L. and A. H. Pattishall of Sanford; and one brother, A. B. (Bud) Wicker of Sanford; as well as 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Rev. R. E. Tally conducted the funeral services, assisted by Rev. J. H. McLamb and Rev. G. M. Tally.

Note: Only daughter of Blake Basil Wicker and Flora McIver
