Corporal, Battery B, 123rd F.A., 33rd Division. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Arlan Melton; born October 4, 1895 in Rio, IL. Entered Co. C, 6th Illinois, May 26, 1917; to Headquarters Company December 11, 1917; promoted to Corporal January 1, 1918; overseas May 27, 1918; transferred to Battery B, 123rd F.A., 33rd Division, August 18, 1918; 743 day in service; 40 days on the line and two days in major offensive; discharged at Camp Grant, June 7, 1919.

RIO - Funeral services for Lloyd Melton, formerly of Rio, were at Ravenna, Neb., Saturday. He died Jan. 29 at a Grand Island, Neb., hospital.

RIO - Lloyd Melton, 73, formerly of Rio, died Jan. 29 at Vets Hospital at Grand Island, Neb., where he had been a patient some time.
He was born at Rio Oct. 4, 1895. He was the first man to volunteer from Rio Township in World War I and served two years in France, Belgium and Germany from 1917-1919.
He married the former Bessie Malegka on Dec. 12, 1933. She survives with two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Zinnel of Ravenna, Neb., and Mrs. Lois Bynum of Lincoln, Neb.; a son, Edward at home; three grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Lotus Masonic Lodge, Rose Crois Chapter OES at Ravenna, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Funeral services were Feb. 1 at Grand Island United Church of Christ. Military rites were conducted at the graveside.
