Fred Krieger Plymouth Post August 14, 1909

Fred Krieger, a noted immigrant of this area and a veteran of the Civil War, died on Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adolph Stoelting. He was born October 14th, 1838 in Rothenkirchen, Oldenburg, Germany and lived to be 71 years. He came to America and Milwaukee at the age of 15 years. Soon after he moved to Kiel where he lived with his brother, August, and worked in the Gutheil Bros. Brewery. In 1861 he returned to Germany but he soon came back to serve in the Civil War. He enlisted in Milwaukee and served with the Company C of the 24th Wisconsin Regiment. He was wounded in the war as an officer. In 1867 he again returned to Germany and was married to Elfrieda Fitger of Rothenhauser in Bremen. He and his wife came back to Kiel where he purchased the Reichert store business which he operated for 8 years. He was the founder of the Kiel Turner Society and held other public offices. He was a member and an officer of the General Lytle GAR Post.
They had eleven children of which two passed away. The children which are his survivors are as follows; Frida, Clara, Cornelia, Walter and Gerhard of Milwaukee; Ferdinand and Arthur of Duluth, Minnesota; Jessie, Matthew and Mrs. Herta Stoelting of Kiel.
Burial was Wednesday at the Kiel cemetery and was laid to rest beside his wife who passed away 7 years ago. The members of the GAR Post were present at the funeral as a group and O. E. Luening of Milwaukee had the funeral address. A Brother was August Krieger

Death in Kiel Monday morning last week of Ferdinand Krieger, an old veteran of the Civil War, at age 70 from a heart illness. The deceased had lived in Kiel for
many years but went to Milwaukee about 2 years ago to live with his daughter who is a teacher there. In June he came back to Kiel, in a severely weakened condition, where he lived with another daughter, Mrs. Adolph Stoelting.
