Journal Register dated 3-15-2017~~100 Years Ago, 1917:

Chester: The sad news of the death of Ray(s/b Max Ray), son of Mr. and Mrs. Ottis (sic) Brown of Manhattan, Kan., and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brown of Chester, was received here on Wednesday. He was 13 years of age. Burial will be in the Chester cemetery (sic) on Sunday.

MAX RAY BROWN DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS.

Fifteen hours after he had taken sick with meningitis, Max Ray Brown, 13 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis R. Brown, lay dead at his home 1411 Pierce street (sic). Death occurred at 6:30 o'clock last night.

Little Max Brown had been one of the city carriers for the Kansas City Star for several months. He first took sick about 3 o'clock Wednesday morning, rapidly becoming worse. A short funeral service will be held at the home at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow and the body will then be sent to Chester, Nebr., for burial.
