Mrs. Malinda Beals, wife of the late Levi F. Beals, died on Thursday, September 22, at the home of her son, James Beals, three quarters of a mile southeast of Johnstown. She was 88 years of age. Mrs. Beals, daughter of John and Matilda Ballinger, was born at Logansport, Hendrick County, Indiana, on October 15, 1833. On October 7, 1847, she was united in marriage to Garrett Ballinger of Hendricks County. To this union were born four children, Almira, Christina, Joseph and Matilda, all of whom preceded her in death. Mr. Ballinger died on August 30, 1853. On February 21, 1856, Mrs. Beals was united in marriage to Levi F. Beals and to this union were born ten children, eight of whom are living, Ruth Beals Goodwin and Columbus Beals being dead. The surviving children are: Mrs. Sarah Childers of Lerna; Nelson Beals of Johnstown; John Beals of Toledo; Mrs. James Buckner of McLeansboro; Ed Beals of Johnstown. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mildred Cisna of Mattoon and a brother, Levi Ballinger also of that place.
Mrs. Beals was converted and joined the Christian Church at the age of 20 and two years later united with the Missionary Baptist Church.
