A son of the late John and Mary Jenkins Mathias, he was born May 11, 1891, at Mathias and spent the greater portion of his life in this community.
On July 13, 1912, he married Miss. Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Caldwell, who survives.
Mr. Mathias was a active member of the Mathias Church of the Brethren and helped to construct the Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Arnold Dow Mathias, of Vienna, and one grandson.
