Louida was a graduate of West Virginia University and taught high school English and Latin in Hillsboro, W.Va.
After she married Dr. Brand, they lived in Thomas, W.Va., for four years, before moving to Chester, where they lived for the next 40 years. While in Chester, Louida was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Woman's Civic Club and helped start Lynn Murray Library. She lived the last years of her life in Richmond, Va., where she was a member of the Bon Air Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Colebank.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Dowdy and Dr. Mary Jane Brand, and a son, John S. Brand II, all of Richmond; grandchildren Sarah Traugott, of Austin, Texas, Marcus Dowdy, of Richmond, Va., and Amy Brand, Pennsburg, Pa.; and great-granddaughter Emerson Traugott.
The Rev. Trina Lewis, of Westminster Presbyterian, will officiate services at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester were friends may visit on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
