Thomas J. Aishman of Spiro was born June 23, 1915, in Warren, Okla., to James Patrick and Pearl Evelina (Brown) Aishman and passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, in Fort Smith at the age of 94. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen of the home; one daughter, Janie Kinnerson and husband, Jerry of Spiro; three sons, Tom Aishman and wife, June of Spiro, Jack Aishman and wife, Zeny of San Diego, and Patrick Aishman and wife, Irene of Spiro; one sister, Cara Mae Smith of Houston; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pocola and of the Baptist faith for 59 years. He served in the 9th Armored Infantry of the U.S. Army. He was a radio carrier, forward observer during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He was wounded and captured and became a POW for four years until 1946. He loved to garden, woodwork (making furniture) and raise livestock and his pets. He was retired from Riverside Furniture. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Pocola with the Rev. Chad Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro. Pallbearers will be Tom Aishman, Jack Aishman, Patrick Aishman, J.D. Aishman, Jerry Brackney and Chris Brackney.
