JOHN C. ELLWOOD, furniture dealer, North Manchester. John C. Ellwood was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, March 29, 1848. His parents were William and Elizabeth Ellwood. He was reared on a farm, and when eighteen years of aged, went to learn the cabinet-maker's trade, which he has pursued ever since. He came to North Manchester in 1876, and established his present business, in company with A. E. Stewart. This partnership has continued, and the business is conducted by Stewart & Ellwood. He is energetic and enterprising, and has met with good success in his business. He was married, in October 1870, to Miss Emma Cartwright. They have three children living - Cora, Blanche, and Clyde. Mr. Ellwood is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and his wife is a member of the United Brethren Church.

JOHN ELWOOD BURIED FRIDAY
The body of John C. Elwood was brought to this city from Marion Friday, and the burial was had in Oaklawn cemetery. Death had occurred Wednesday evening at the soldiers' home at Marion, following a stroke of paralysis which had come upon him some days before. Prior to that time he had been in good health. Brief funeral services were held at the grave in this city Friday morning , being conducted by Rev. George Beiswanger, while members of the Grand Army and of the Masonic order acted as escorts. The body was accompanied here from Marion by a representative from the soldier's home, W.D. Sult and wife and A. E. Stewart of Marion, a former business partner, and by his daughter, Miss Blanche Elwood, of Roanoke, Virginia.
John C. Ellwood was born in Phillipsburg, Ohio, March 29, 1848. He served during the civil war, and shortly after its close came to Millersburg, Indiana, where he married Miss Emma Cartwright. From there they moved to North Manchester about 44 years ago, and for a long time was engaged in the funeral and undertaking business with A. E. Stewart under the firm name Stewart & Ellwood, retiring from that business about twenty years ago, when the business was sold to Gara & Wise, to be later transferred to Gump, Walters & Dewey. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood, one being dead. The living are Miss Blanche Ellwood and Mrs. Zoe Lester of Roanoke, Virginia, and Clyde Elwood or California. Mrs. Ellwood passed away a number of years ago, and some time following her death, Mr. Ellwood was married to Mrs. Emma Hagan, who died a number of years ago.
