Dorothy E. "Dottie" Mitchell, 85, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at Bethesda North Hospital. She was born June 10, 1924 in Mulberry, the daughter of the late Alfred M. and Ruby E. (Howell) Woodmansee II. Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Allensburg Church of Christ and Martinsville Eastern Star Chapter 50. During World War II she worked as a secretary in the CIA in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Mitchell and her husband of 57 years, Robert Z. Mitchell Sr., farmed and had an egg and produce route, and lived in the Lynchburg area for more than 60 years. She is survived by a son, of Lynchburg; a daughter of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, all of Lynchburg; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, of Lynchburg; one sister-in-law, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a very special daughter-in-law, of Lynchburg; three nieces; two nephews; and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Z. Mitchell Sr., on Jan. 18, 1999; and three sisters, Anna Marie Woodmansee (infant), Virginia (Walter) Monroe and Stella (John) Eveland. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Allensburg Church of Christ. Bob Stevens will officiate. Burial will follow in the Troutwine Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allensburg Church of Christ Building Fund, 7105 Abernathy Road, Lynchburg, Ohio 45142.
