Phyllis (Rives) Barnes, 50, of Valparaiso, IN and formerly of Pelahatchie, MS passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso,IN after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Phyllis was born on June 20, 1954 in Jackson, Mississippi to Tom and Mildred (King) Rives.
She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and has lived in the Valparaiso area for the past 30 years. Phyllis worked the past seven years as a consultant for Kankakee Valley Work Force Development in Michigan City.
She is survived by her daughter, Shawn Lenore Barnes of Valparaiso, IN; father and step-mother Tom and Jessica Rives of Brandon, MS; three sisters, Carolyn (Johnny) Thornton of Pelahatchie, MS, Peggy (Jack) Hood of Valparaiso, IN and Flora Jo (John) Nicholson of Hernando, MS; brother, Tommy Rives of Brandon, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother and Daniel Barnes.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 20, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, IN with Rev. Kent Patterson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
