Gloucester, Va., March 5 - A telegram was received here this morning from Baltimore stating that R. A. Fitzhugh died at his home last night of cerebral hemorrhage. He was born and reared in Gloucester County, and was a prominent Mason, a member of the grand working committee of the Grand Lodge of Virginia. A blood vessel burst in his head while attending the Grand Lodge in Richmond recently. He was taken to his home in Baltimore and was believed to be improving, but was taken suddenly worse on Wednesday evening and died at 1:30 o'clock that night. He was a Confederate soldier, having served through the war in his father's company, known as Fitzhugh Company, Gloucester County, Twenty-sixth Virginia Infantry. He was a past master of Botetourt Lodge of Masons and belonged to the Richmond Shrine.
The body will be brought here on Saturday morning, and funeral services and interment will be at Ebenezer Church. He leaves behind his wife and two children – A. C. Fitzhugh, of Baltimore, and Mrs. Mary F. Delevett, of Baltimore – and two brothers – William, Urbanna, and George, of this county. The funeral will be with Masonic honors.
