DOROTHY L. CHARLES, 75, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, December 1, 2009 at William Newton Hospital.
Born on May 17, 1934 in Halford, Kansas, she was the daughter of John H and Maude C. (Spriggs) Charles. In 1959, she resided at the Winfield State Hospital and in 1975 was moved to Norton State Hospital. Dorothy returned to Winfield in 1992 and resided at Focus Developmental Center. She has lived at Southwind Rescare since 1998.
Dorothy enjoyed listening to music, bowling, watching television, being outdoors and spending time with her caregivers.
She is survived by: Her sisters: June Decker of Burlington, KS; Jeanette Shinn of Topeka, KS; and Kay Charles of Topeka, KS; She is also survived by her caregivers at Southwind Rescare and her guardian, Joan Cornett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Francis Slaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 4, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will be held at the Beulah Cemetery in Colby, Kansas at a later date.
