DROWNED.

Sunday morning Frank and Arthur Weston, sons of Jubal Weston, of St. Johns, were crossing the Sacramento river in a rowboat at old Monroeville. When near the center of the river by some means the boat was upset, emptying the two young men in the river. Frank, the younger of the two, could swim but Arthur could not. They got hold of the boat and Arthur attempted to get up on top the bottom. Frank tried to persuade him not to, stating that by holding on to the edge of the boat they would soon drift to shore. But Arthur would not desist in his attempts to get on top, and in so doing he tipped the boat which turned right-side up and it is thought that the boat hit him. Frank dove to get out of the way of the boat and when he came up he could see nothing of Arthur, in fact, he was not seen again until Wednesday evening, when his body was found about two hundred yards down the river. The remains were interred Thursday morning.

Arthur Weston was 23 years of age and a native of Colusa County. He was a surveyor by occupation and was widely known. In this their bereavement the family of Jubal Weston has the sympathy of the community. – Transcribed by E.
