Anna Mae Poe was daughter of James William (1845-1898) and Sarah Ellen (McWhorter) Poe (1849-1915) who married on September 21, 1869 in Effingham, Illinois. She was one of twelve siblings. (Three died in infancy and two other children "disappear" after 1880 census.)
After their father died, their mother had to be placed in a mental institution. The minor children, including Annie, were raised by other families. Annie was raised by her maternal uncle John McWhorter [Memorial# 144721609], whose son Charles McWhorter moved to Texas about the time Annie did.
Annie first married (ca. 1909) Alexander B. Doss. After his death, she remarried on 9 December 1935 to T.S. Clark.
Annie's maternal grandmother Margaret (Loy) McWhorter was sister to Joseph C. Loy.
