Emma Jane "Janie" Peacock Cox passed away on Saturday Oct 30, 2004. She was born October 5, 1938 in Ryan, Oklahoma in Jefferson County to Julius Colbert & Hattie Ruth (Shelburn) Peacock. She spent her childhood in Ryan, OK, Lake Victor, TX and Kermit, TX areas.
Janie attended school in Kermit, TX. She married Carol Marion Cox on July 5, 1958. They often told the story as they saw fireworks on the 4th and thought that was the sign of true love so they married the next day. She and Carol lived in Burnet County. They lived in the CCC cabin on the grounds of Longhorn Caverns around 1961. They also lived in Morton, TX, Kempner, TX and Copperas Cove, TX before building a home in Burnet, TX on land they purchased from the Cox Family.
Janie worked at Burnet County Clerk's office during Mr. Barton's leadership. She and Carol ran fireworks stands in Copperas Cove, Tx for years. She was a homemaker for many years until her youngest child started school. It was then that Janie went to work for Sheriff Wallace Riddell as a dispatcher at the Burnet County Sheriff's office around 1973 and retired medically in 1993 as Supervising Dispatcher and Reserve Deputy Sheriff. She enjoyed traveling the United States with Carol, going to dances with Carol family and friends. She loved following grandchildren (who called her Granny Emma) to sports activities and with loving life with her family, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents of Burnet, TX. Also proceeded by her siblings: Sisters: Myrtle Ann Roberts of Perth, New York; Mary O. House of Harker Heights, TX. Brothers: Julius E. Peacock of San Juan, NM; Garland Peacock of Victoria, TX; James Alvin Peacock (a twin) of Burnet, TX; Calvin Allison Peacock (a twin) of Red Oak, TX. She is also preceded in death by her nephew William Alan Roberts of Perth, New York who was attending Baylor University in Waco Texas at the time of his death.
