Kiziah Melinda Tarlton was quoted in the "Brooks Bridge of History" by Margie Williams Baucom in 1980 as the daughter of John P. "Jackie" Tarlton and his wife, Mary "Polly" Parrot Tarlton, saying her grandmother [mother of John P. "Jackie" Tarlton] was a "Full Blooded" Waxhaw Indian. I do not know this for certain as the Waxhaw Indian Tribe was purported to have been extinct by the middle 1700's. I do know this that the "Indian Look" is very much prevalent in some of my relatives even today. I can tell you this that John Tarlton Sr. was enumerated in the 1800 census in Fayetteville, Anson County, North Carolina ...as there was no Union County, North Carolina until 1842 when it was formed from Anson and Mecklenburg County. John Tarlton Jr. was enumerated in Anson County, North Carolina in 1830. This would be the John P. "Jackie" Tarlton, that was enumerated in the 1850 census in the household of Pleasant Moore, who had married Nancy Tarlton, who was the daughter of John and Mary Parrot Tarlton. Kiziah, married Col. Thomas Polk # 32400024, who was a widow after his wife Mary Selby Polk (died in 1840)... in 1841, after he promised her "Riches and Gold". Thomas died 8 months after marrying Kiziah. Kiziah then married Davidson Brooks(who were "Lovers" before she married Col. Polk) in Union County, North Carolina in 1842. Col. Thomas Polk is buried in Gibralter(Polk Mountain), Union County, North Carolina...just "down the Road" from where Davidson and Kiziah are buried, in the place known as "The Bigfoot Place" Davidson and Kiziah had 16 children, with the 16th child and Kiziah both dying. The children are, Mary Isabelle Brooks, Calvin Horatio Brooks, Lucy Brooks, Cullen Cyrus Brooks, Lydia Ann Brooks Staton, Mary Elizabeth Brooks, Eliza Jane Brooks, Henry M. Brooks, Sarah Ellen Brooks Davis, William Brooks, Alexander Jackson Brooks, Tabitha Catherine Brooks, my ggrandfather, James Thomas Brooks, Emeline Brooks, John David Brooks, Serena Kiziah Brooks Little, and Unknown Infant Brooks.
