Ruth Brill

Ruth Brill, 96, of 1014 Grant St., Eldorado, passed away at 6 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2003, at Ferrell Hospital.

Mrs. Brill was born Aug. 8, 1906, in Eldorado to the late Owen and Nora (Mills) Reeder. She married Jerome Brill on Feb. 14, 1924. He preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1964.

Mr. and Mrs. Brill owned and operated a "mom and pop" grocery store on Saline Avenue across from the Eldorado High School from 1934 until 1968, when she retired.

She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldorado since 1941 and is thought to be the oldest active member. She taught Sunday school and was superintendent of the intermediate department for several years.

Mrs. Brill is survived by a daughter, Peggy Ripperdan from the Lake of Egypt and a son, Owen Brill of Eldorado.

Also surviving are two granddaughters, Francie (Marshall) Glover of Equality and Sally Ripperdan of Auburn; two great-grandchildren, Beth (Bill) Bakkeby of Louisville, Ky., and Steve (Jamie) Glover of Equality; and three great-great-granddaughters, Alexandra, Victoria and Gabriella Bakkeby.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel King and Ruby Murray; and one brother, Clifton Reeder.

Mrs. Brill was cremated with the arrangements provided by Colonial Terrace Funeral Home. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in her memory.
