Carl A. Maggio was a member of B Company, 192nd Tank Battalion. His company originated as an Illinois National Guard Tank Company. He fought on Bataan and became a Japanese Prisoner of War on April 9, 1942. He spent over three and a half years in POW camps in the Philippine Islands and Japan. He was liberated in September 1945 and was one of 34 National Guard members of his tank company to survive the war. 55 National Guardsmen died in Japanese POW camps.
