El Don Albert Allinson, a longtime Merced County resident, died Friday at his home. He was 69.
Mr. Allinson was born Sept. 3, 1927 in Turlock. He had been a resident of Merced County for 44 years, most recently residing in Merced. He was a milk tester for 27 years for the Merced County Dairy Herd Improvement Association before retiring.
He was a U.S. Navy corpsman during World War II and Korea. He was a member of the California Wildlife Federation and an avid sportsman. He enjoyed working with cattle, camping, hunting and fishing. He was a past president of the Modesto Houndsman Club and the president of the Tri-County Houndsmans Association.
In addition, he worked as a volunteer for the Evangelical Free Church of Merced and for Love Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his only son, Donald Allinson, who died May 19, 1997.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Nadine Allinson of Merced; two daughters, Gloria Thompson of Atwater and Carol Dove of Applegate; a sister, Ruby Olson of Turlock; five brothers, Kenneth Allinson of Maysville, NC, Raymond Nelson of Desert Hot Springs, Carl St. Clair of Scotts Valley, James Allinson of Portland, OR, and Paul Allinson of Grand Coulee, VA. He also is survived by eight grandchildren.
Visitation is noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stratford Evans Merced Chapel.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Plainsburg Cemetery. The Rev. David Gish of the Evangelical Free Church of Merced will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
