John Harvey Bales was born January 30, 1937 in Tulsa to Robert Sig and Rena Lucille (New) Bales. He joined Our Lord in Heaven Friday, November 6, 2009 at the age of 72.
A life-long Tulsan, he spent his entire life here with the exception of the 36 months he spent in the US Army in service to the country he loved, here in the states and in France.
John worked as a carpenter for the Tulsa Public Schools, retiring after more than 28 years on his 50th birthday.
He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and volunteered for many years at various veterans' hospitals and clinics. He also drove a church bus for 10th and Rockford Church of Christ where they were members and later was a member of the Memorial Drive Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Chester Hughes as weel as his three brothers, Roy, Robert and Paul Bales.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Monday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in John's memory to Hope Harbor Children's Home, 15025 E 380 Rd., Tulsa, OK 74194 or give to your favorite charity.
