Death of Mrs. Scranton.
Mrs. Sarah Scranton passed away at her home, 201 South Ninth street early yesterday morning.

South Kansas Tribune, Wed., Dec. 21, 1921
Death of Mrs. Scranton.
For several weeks Mrs. Sarah Scranton has been under a physician's care but few, if any, anticipated her early call to eternity. Her grand-daughter, Edwina Scranton, slept in the opposite room, and when she arose, went to her grandmother, but found her unconscious and called her uncle Clarence and his wife. She had fallen asleep only to awaken in eternity, and without a trace of suffering or pain.
Sarah J. Shultz was born in Ohio in 1853, came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shultz to Emporia and in pioneer days, her parents located on a claim near Liberty, where she grew to womanhood and later was married to George T. Scranton who had been a Union soldier in the 119th Illinois volunteers.
In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Scranton moved to Independence and Mr. S. became deputy sheriff, serving four years and later engaged in the grocery business. She was a working member of the Methodist church from childhood, also of the Eastern Star and W. R. Corps. Mrs. Scranton is survived by her sons, George R. of Chicago and Clarence L., and brothers John N. and Elijah Shultz of this city, and six grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday in the First Methodist church and her pastor, Rev. H. A. Gordon paid a fine tribute to her life and Christian character. There was a large attendance of the Woman's Relief Corps, Eastern Star lodge and friends, and her remains were laid beside her husband's in Mount Hope Cemetery
