Emma was the eldest of 7 children born to Carl Ottomar von Hugo and Albertine Amalie Graefin zu Dohna, Prussian immigrants. The family settled near Petersville, Texas in Dewitt County. Emma was born in Glogau as were all of her siblings.
Emmie married Marsley Bulwer (aka, Marcellin Beauloye) on Dec 6, 1858 in Dewitt County. They were parents to 4 children before Marsley left home and disappeared sometime after 1870.
Emmie lived on the family farm in the Petersville area till her death.
