"Died in East Poultney on January 10, Zebadiah Dewey one of the oldest residents of the town. He was born in Poultney, August 16, 1813, was one of the twelve children of Dr. David and Anna Dewey. The Dewey history of Poultney begins with the settlement of the town and this branch is the direct descendants of Major Zebadiah Dewey. Major Dewey was the father of ten children and these are their names: Thomas, Zebadiah, Beulah, Charlotte, Anna, Artemesia, Azariah, Jonathan, Keziah and David. All grew up and were married, many of whom had large families. Two of those above named have descendants still with us that of Azariah and David. Azariah married Amelia Smith and they had three children, Solomon J, Archibald, and Abigail. Solomon married Charlotte Finel and had four children, Edwin S, Oscar, Albert and Solomon. His first wife died and he married for his second wife, Louise Darby, who is the mother of J. Randolph, Henry and Eliza (twins) and James M. David was the youngest child of Major Dewey and their children numbered twelve, five of them died in infancy the other seven are Charlotte, who married Paul M. Ross, the parents of Dr. L. D.
