Harold I. Baker, 90, Topeka, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at a Topeka nursing home.
Mr. Baker taught English and journalism at Council Grove High School and later in Topeka at Highland Park High School and Shawnee Heights High School in Tecumseh, until he retired in 1977.
He was born July 22, 1912, in Council Grove, to Preston J. Baker and Ora Jane Bennett Baker.
Mr. Baker was a member of Country Chapel Church in Topeka.
He married Irene Jackson Baker on Aug. 23, 1936, in Council Grove. She died April 24, 2003.
Mr. Baker also was preceded in death by four brothers, Bennett Baker, Robert Baker, Warren Baker and Russell Baker.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Rogers, Tecumseh; a son, Gary Baker, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Marjorie Deckard, Council Grove; a brother, Bernard Baker, Council Grove; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private family memorial services will be June 28. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Council Grove.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
