Amy C. Benham, 62, of Hampstead

Amy C. Benham, 62, of Hampstead, died Thursday morning, June 22, 2000, at York Hospital.

Born Sept. 9, 1937, in Weldon, Ill., she was the daughter of Helen Strevig Benham of Hanover, and the late Roy K. Benham.

She retired from the Baltimore County School System, where she first served as an elementary school teacher, then as the science resource teacher for elementary schools. At the time of her retirement, she was assistant principal at Glyndon Elementary School.

She was a 1955 graduate of Manchester High School and attended Towson State, where she earned her teaching degree. She received a double masters degree in science from Michigan State University, and she had also attended Carroll Community College, where she took courses in painting and opera appreciation.

She was an active member of Black Rock Church of the Brethren, where she served as Christian education director for six years; church board chair; nursery school board; Sunday school teacher; and Bible study leader.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are sister Janice W. Croasmun of Hanover, Pa.; and brother Paul K. Benham of Lancaster, Pa.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Black Rock Church of the Brethren, 3864 Glenville Road, Glenville. Interment will be in Black Rock Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover, and from 10 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Black Rock Church of the Brethren, 3864, Glenville Road, Glenville, PA 17329.
