Spc. Charlton died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident Oct. 23 in Wardak, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y. Robert was the son of Edison Keith Charlton and Denise Roxanne McMillian Tadlock and was a U.S. Army, Specialist Infantryman. He proudly served with the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York and gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He took up arms against terrorists in the global war on terrorism and performed his duties with honor and distinction, having been recognized with the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Army Commendation Medal.
