Delores Bischoff, 95, of Waverly, Iowa, died early Saturday morning, November 21, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, of natural causes.
Estelle was born on March 20, 1914, in Kingsley, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Minnie (Pitman) Reinking. Following her schooling, she taught schools in the Kingsley area. On June 4, 1940, Estelle was united in marriage to Rev. Werner Arthur Bischoff at Salem Lutheran Church in Correctionville, Iowa. Estelle and Werner were both blessed in life with 50+ years of faithful service to their Lord and His Kingdom here on earth. The couple served in the communities of Bancroft, SD, Preston, Iowa, Charles City, Iowa, and Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1979, they "retired" to Oelwein, Iowa, where they served part-time at Zion Lutheran Church and also built their own 1st house and began making winter trips to Texas and enjoying travels and friendship there. In 1989, after retirement, they moved to Waverly, Iowa, where they enjoyed a condo of their own and later became part of the Eichhorn House community. In 2003 they relocated to Madison, Wisconsin, to be closer to family. Werner died on December 21, 2003. Estelle continued to live in Madison at Oakwood Lutheran Retirement Center where she enjoyed the activities and friendships of this community.
Estelle was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly in retirement. She loved serving alongside her husband at churches throughout their ministry. Her love of cooking for the miriad of church events, teaching classes and Bible studies, organizing groups for service in the community, sewing for relief organizations, etc. became full time jobs for her. In retirement she and Werner enjoyed creating many hand-quilted quilts. Each of the children and grandchildren has a special quilt and hand hewn quilt rack to fuel their memories of their Gram and Gramps.
Estelle is survived by her four children and spouses, Roberta (Dean) Phillips of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Barbara Sathoff of Monroe, Wisconsin, Paul (Connie) Bischoff of Burnsville, Minnesota, Jim (Candice) Bischoff of International Falls, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law, Wilma Reinking of Kingsley, IA, and Irma Melzer of Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Werner, her brother, Ross, and son-in-law Maurice Sathoff.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor James Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 24th from 9:00 until services at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
