Victoria (or “Effie” as she was known) was the 9th of 10 children born to Washington and Pheraba LaForce. She was born in Rocky Fork Township (now Columbia), Missouri. By the time she was 9, her family had moved to Mexico, the county seat of Audrain County, Missouri.

There she grew to adulthood, and met Dr. Simeon C. Adams, a prominent Missouri physician, who was born and raised in Audrain County. In 1897 the two were married and the next year, their first child, Catherine was born. Soon after came Simeon C. Jr. followed by Eleanor.

In 1919, Dr. Adams died tragically from a severe case of peritonitis and four years later, in 1923, Victoria and her three grown children and their spouses all moved to Kansas City, Missouri, There she remained until her death in 1949.
