The back of Reuben Lewis's marker contains four small holes where the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution attached a plaque in 1930. The plaque commemorated Lewis's participation in the Champoeg meeting in 1843, where Oregon's first territorial government was formed. The four holes in the marker contain metal/rust fragments, evidence that the marker was forcibly removed, likely many decades ago.
