Mary Faye Chumley, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away Oct. 7, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Muskogee, Okla., the daughter of Robert Wilson and Ethel Cottrell Wilson. She grew up in Muskogee and attended high school and college in Tahlequah, Okla. She worked in nursing from the age of 13 and went on to earn a home nurse certificate.

She married Orvil L. Chumley on March 22, 1947. He preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1987.

During World War II, she served as an airplane technician making electrical wiring harnesses for the planes for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Okla. She continued to work as a nurse until the mid-1950s. She went to work for Idaho Potato Growers in Idaho Falls for more than 20 years. She then worked at French's/Pillsbury in Shelley until she retired after 22 years of service.

She was a member of First Christian Church for more than 50 years. She loved baking, cooking, sewing and crocheting. She enjoyed crocheting booties and blankets for the newborn babies at the hospital. She also enjoyed volunteering as a reading teacher at Fox Hollow Elementary School. She was a very hard working, kindhearted woman who was always a faithful Christian.

She is survived by her children, Joyce (Doug) Davidson of Moscow, Judy Sterling of Dallas, Texas, Steve (Linda) Chumley of Idaho Falls and Robert (Cindy) Chumley of Boise; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Janet Johnson; her parents; and a brother, Harold Wilson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls. A visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
