Charles Middleton Breaker Roberts was the son of Joseph Roberts and Mary Jane Stewart Roberts of Marengo County, Alabama. It appears that Charles was named for Rev. Charles Middleton Breaker, a minister who was prominent in the Baptist Community at that time and had spoken in the Nanafalia Baptist Church.

Charles' mother died on January 5, 1855, and his father died about 1857. Their orphaned children were raised separately by family/church members. Charles was enumenated on the 1860 US Census for the Western Division of Marengo County at Linden, Alabama, at the age of 8, in the household of Martha Roberts 50, (believed to be grandmother or great aunt) along with her son, William 23.

Charles was baptised in the Shiloh Baptist Church in Dixon Mills, Alabama, on August 23, 1867, age 16. Sometime after that, Charles left Alabama and made his way to Madison County, Texas. Charles is enumerated on the 1870 US Census for Madison County, Texas, in the household of James J. Hale as "Carlie" Roberts, age 19.

Charles married Agnes Jane Hale about 1872, in Madisonville, Madison County, Texas. There were 15 children born to this marriage and all but one lived to adulthood. Memorials for all of these children are linked below.

Charles had two brothers, John Bethel and James Desire Roberts and the three corresponded as adults. The letters have never been located but, it was knowledge of this correspondence that made it possible to find Charles and James, who were never on a census with their parents or on any known court record. When John Bethel was too old to steady his hand to write, his grandson would write the letters to Charles for John.

In 1895, both the Charles MB Roberts Family and the James J. Hale Family relocated to Alvin, Brazoria County, Texas. They were involved in farming in Alvin. They also lived part of the time in Galveston, Texas between 1906 and 1913, where Charles and his sons worked on the docks at the Port of Galveston. It is noted in the 1914 issue of the Galveston, Texas City directory that "Charles M B Roberts removed to Alvin, Texas".

Charles and Agnes devoted their lives to their family. They seemed to be a hard working, close knit family, helping one another through hard times. They were active church members, Charles served the Baptist Church as a deacon for over 60 years in Madisonville and in Alvin, Texas.

Charles Middleton Breaker Roberts died in Alvin, Brazoria County, at the age of 84 and is buried next to his wife, Agnes Jane Hale Roberts, in the Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Brazoria County, Texas.
